Prizes and awards

Both organizations link the best wedding photographers from around the world. Photographs awarded in the WPJA and AGWPJA competitions have been the benchmark for the highest level in wedding photography, as well as, have helped in defining the latest trends.

It so happens that in the last few years several dozen of my photographs have been awarded within the competitions organized by WPJA and AGWPJA! I therefore believe, that I have also made a small contribution to the development of wedding photography.

I have over 90 awards and distinctions

1

1st Place Q1 - Creative Portrait

Judges
This picture immediately rose to the top of the creative portrait category for me. I love how the photographer captured aspects of the bride and groom’s personalities and togetherness without faces or touching one another, but rather through their intimate sharing of space and their clear comfort and freedom with one another.

1st Place Trash the Dress - TTD - Details

Judges
It's really awesome, what a moment! Intelligent concept, love the sand flying over the layered composition with trashed bride in the background.

3

2nd Place /2009 Q1 - Creative Portrait

Judges
Loved this portrait! A little mix of Diane Arbus and Eugene Richards with a little Arthur Tress thrown in there. The most unusual and striking of all the portraits and one of the few that stands as a truly interesting image outside of the realm of wedding photography.

4

2nd Place Q2 Contest - Getting Ready

Judges
A beautifully constructed frame, there are several surprises here. Nicely captured moment between the bride and groom. Definitely, my favorite of the category.,

5

2nd Place /2011 Q2 Contest - Transportation

Judges
An insightful take on transportation. The contrast of whimsy against a graphic backdrop sets this image apart from the rest.

6

2nd Place Trash the Dress - TTD - Water

Judges
This image kept us coming back for a second look. We love the candid real-life feeling of excitement and terror that the water is freezing. The infrared works very well to contrast against the black suit and all the shadows. The foliage draws the viewer into the frame with all the contrasting elements.

7

3rd Place Trash the Dress - TTD - Urban

Judges
Love the journalism feel of this image. Live action and some serious grass trashing. Making the statement but can we say GOOOOOAAAALLLLL!

8

3rd Place Q3 - Departure

Judges
Great vantage point and angle.
Classic feel to a modern wedding.

9

3rd Place Trash the Dress - TTD - Rural

10

4th Place Trash the Dress - TTD - Rural

Judges
We love the cows and even more, the small pup participating here. The photographer's choice in framing here would have distracted us but thanks to the pup, the frame has incredible balance for us. The wind is helping with the trashing too!

11

4th Place /2007 Q1 - Creative Portraits

12

4th Place Trash the Dress - TTD - Urban

Judges
What an unusual place for a bride & groom to be??? Her dress is definitely trashed those nasty wine-stained dance floors have nothing on a hockey rink! The action of the moving players heats this frame up! Nice frame!

13

4th Place /2008 Q3 - Lit Portrait

Judges
I almost feel like this was a spontaneous, captured moment, but I dont think so. The point is, it totally looks like you happened on them. Very nice. A very romantic, well-conceived moment.

14

4th Place Q2 - Creative Portrait

Judges
I don't know what says creative portrait more than a couple in an excavator. This photo was a real standout because of its originality. There definitely feels like there's a story behind it

15

6th Place Trash the Dress - TTD - Urban

Judges
This one is kinda scary and leaves us wondering what is happening here. We like the layering and framing with the bricks. We keep coming back to stare into this shot and our minds wonder…

16

10th Place Q4 Contest - Portrait of Bride AND Groom

Judges:
"Isn’t life kind of like this? Love transfixed amidst the populace, lingering just a moment longer within the reflection of a beautiful day."

17

19th Place Q3 Contest - Ceremony

18

11th Place /2012 Q2 Contest - Getting Ready

Judges
Purse - check, wallet - check, clothes - check, baby - yes.

19

4th Place Q3 Contest - Ring Details

Judges
A storytelling moment, great seeing., I like the artistry of the rings silhouetted in the frame. It gives the rings a wonderful sense of place and family.

20

6th Place Q4 - Engagement Portrait

Judges
I immediately loved this shot. The gesture, and spontaneity is genuine and I like the unusual point of view and the perfect balance in colors. Really elegant and tender.

21

8th Place Q2 Contest - Details (Found)

Judges
The hand reaching up releasing the balloons adds a nice bit of tension to the moment. Might be effective to later pair a follow-up photo of a postmarked card with this one.

22

8th Place Q2 - Getting Ready

Judges
There were very, very many pictures that used reflections as compositional elements and to my eye this one was the best. I like the look of anticipation on the man's (groom's) face and the coy way in which the bride is looking down before she opens the door. Wonderful composition.

23

9th Place /2009 Q4 - Engagement Portrait

Judges
A great sense of where the couple is.

24

9th Place Trash the Dress - TTD - Water

Judges
LOTS of energy here. The bride is getting the splash trashing of a lifetime. We wish we could see her face a little more. Good movement.

25

10th Place Q2 - Ceremony

Judges
This image has high energy making the photograph jump. The thrill of the day is nicely caught with groom in mid air and bride running through the crowd.

26

10th Place /2006 Winter - Creative Portrait

Judges
The lean of the tree mimics the lean of the couple. The tension of the impending storm surrounded by the sensuality of the kiss. I think it works real well in B/W too. In color, I think it would have lost some journalistic qualities.

27

10th Place /2008 BRIDES Magazine - Ceremony

28

10th Place Q1 - Creative Portraits

Judges
Running...emotion...fun...energy...all into one...when they can't remember this will help spur them to remember what it was like to be young or somewhat young. Dont think that it's put together as well as some of the other pictures, but I liked the energy and feeling.

29

11th Place /2009 Q3 - Creative Portrait

Judges
Well thought out photo.

30

11th Place Q2 - Weather

31

14th Place Q3 Contest - Kids (Being Kids)

32

15th Place Q2 - Ceremony

Judges
This is a funny moment with the bored flower girl. It's more subtle, but still a funny, unexpected view.

33

16th Place Q3 - Great Natural Light

34

16th Place Q1 Contest - Lit Portrait

35

16th Place Q4 Photography Competition - Humor

36

16th Place /2008 Q4 - Other Vendors

Judges
Random is the first word that comes to mind. This is just strange and very un-wedding like, at least the weddings I’ve been to. I really want to hear this band… A picture not all photographers would make.
